Vintage Grocery Shopping

"He found the chain store, bright and full of brisk business. Everybody was there inspecting trays of vegetables, buying great creamy slices of cheese, prunes, crackers, coffee, flour and potatoes. . . . Everything looked clean and appetizing. There were delightful smells of oranges, celery, coffee, on the air. . . How interested these people were, as if they were selecting a new car or a Christmas present."

Is Grace Livingston Hill your favorite author? I love the little tidbits that you post from her books.

I like the tidbits too! I do believe I will have to pick up one of her books and try it for myself!

This is such a sweet paragraph you picked. So easy to imagine the hustle and bustle of the store of the story.

Can I just say that you amaze me? Absolutely amaze me. You don't know me at all and I only visit your blog every now and then, but the very essence of your blog...the pictures, the homeschooling, the vintage everything, the simplicity...is so refreshing. Though I hardly know you, I admire you and just wanted you to know that someone notices that you have successfully chosen a life counter-culture to the wild and crazy world in which we live. Thank you.

Thanks for turning us on to Grace Livingston Hill! My 15 year old daughter and I have been devouring her books since you first introduced us to them. we get our vintage fix from them. We've laughed together at the provocative cover illustrations on some of our reprinted paperbacks which have nothing whatsoever to do with the actual plot! Marketing!
