Bella Sculpts Her Hair

Bella's dreadlocks have an amazing dimensionality: they take up so much space and they stay almost anywhere you put them. Though she usually wears them down, held off her face with a stretchy band, she's started sculpting them into fantastical creations when she has a little extra time.

These shapes have such a presence and dignity to them; I love them.

No fancy hair this week though. She had her top wisdom teeth out on Monday and does *not* feel like posing for pictures until she loses the cheeks.

I am extremely covetous right now. I want Bella's hair. It's stunningly beautiful!

My sympathies on the wisdom-teeth removal. My experience with that was rather horrendous.

Bella is so lovely. I do hope her mouth heals up quickly - no dry sockets! :-)

Having had my wisdom teeth (all 4) out in one fell swoop at age 18 or so, I sympathize most heartily!

Bella is stunning. But you already knew that. ;-)

What a beautiful girl!

My little one has got hair like Bella (but darkblond, not black). She inherited the afro-frizziness and so far I kept it short.
Dreadlocks seem to be a good alternative. We'll try that out when she's a little older.
(When did Bella start having dreadlocks?)

All the best

gorgeous hair Bella! And you have such a talent for tea parties and cooking. (I love to do the same) You are becoming quite the young lady! Sorry to hear about your wisdom teeth, I had the same thing.
Try to get better!

Bella looks like a queen. I love the style.

I'm sure right now she may feel like chipmunk :) You know, my husband first saw me the week I had my wisdom teeth cut out. It was the week of Christmas and I had to run one errand a few days after surgery. I took his parking space and he searched the local mall for me, fat cheeks and all....

Hope the swelling goes down soon!

Oh the wisdom teeth....prayers for her, those are real buggers sometimes.

As for her beauty, she is a dove. I have 5 sons and have pined for a girl, but would not trade one of them - however, I might wish they had beautiful hair like that. Dreads dont look good on some people, but Bella makes them beautiful - she is truely one of Gods best works! :) I dont mean just her hair! :) She always comes across, in your photo's of her anyway, as being the one with a little more there than most - she's got something special going on about her!!!!! :)

BTW - I love your blog! :) I read daily, but rarly comment! I just had to say this today!

Lovely. A style well-suited for Italian opera singing! Or for baking - no hairs falling into the cake. :)

I love dreadlocks. My midwife has them. So cool. Bella is lovely.

Oh, poor Bella! I hope she gets a treat and is a little spoiled after that pain.

She looks gorgeous!! Her hair is wonderful. :-)

And I'm sorry about the wisdom teeth!! Tell her that I'll be having mine out soon, too. I hope (for both of us!) that it's not awful!

She is such a beautiful young lady (outwardly but it also seems to come from the inside), and sounds incredibly gifted and talented as well. I have looked around your blog a bit to try and learn how she came to be part of your family. Perhaps it is not something you like to talk about. We have been in the process of adopting and I always am blessed when I hear other family's stories.

Beautiful Bella! and to Isla. As a black woman, I can give you a heads up. I have curly hair, one daughter has silky curly hair and the other has very thick, fuzzy curly hair. One product - shea butter - controls it all. Look for a creamy shea butter, not a stiff one. Pure shea, not a mixture. This stuff is a wonder. Mango butter is even better but harder to find. I don't like the shea butter at from nature with love.com but the mango butter there is great. the shea butter at crabapple soap factory.com is good. Go Bella!

Oh my, so gorgeous! Totally queenly!

Hugs to the dearie. I got my four wisdom teeth out about a week ago, and I guess my tolerance for pain is stronger than my humility. My temporary chipmunk cheeks were harder to bear than the ache and soreness. I'm horribly self-destructive, too.... I could not help looking in the mirror every hour or so. Yes, I'm awfully glad that's over. :)

Does her hair grow into dreads by itself, or did she have them done? She's such a beautiful girl. I'm sure even with chipmunk cheeks she'd be stunning :)

Bella is growing into such a beautiful young woman. It is so exciting to see them grow and mature....you DO want to keep them at every age, but you can't.

Ahhh, the beauty of motherhood and the blessing of children. :-)

Gorgeous! I wish I had hair like that.

She's lovely and her hair is beautiful! I hope she heals quickly. I had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed 2 years ago and couldn't take any of the prescribed pain meds because I was caring for my 9 month old son at the time and didn't want to risk being "out of it." The pain was horrible!
