A Weekend Trip to a Big City

A 75th birthday to celebrate with an uncle! So we spent the weekend in St. Louis.

Besides the party fun, and the eating and talking with family, we loved hanging around in Forest Park.

It's absolutely steeped in vintage charm. From the Jewel Box conservatory to the Art Museum, it just feels like the 1920s and 30s to me. In the basement of the art museum Clara and I drooled over the Art Deco furnishings on exhibit. Geometric coffee and tea sets. And a corn set! With a little pot for melted butter, and salt and pepper shakers. And imagined a Grace Livingston Hill villainess admiring herself in the Deco vanity mirror . . . .

Time to wander the paths, a cool pearly sky, and a cardigan in July.

Not our usual 4th, but a treat indeed.

I grew up in the St Louis area and remember well the Jewel Box, the Muni Opera, the Zoo, the annual fireworks. It is a lovely memory.

Long time lurker - I just have to comment this time, I'm from St. Louis (and still here :))

Forest Park is a beauty indeed. I go there on my worst days and things can just seemingly feel better afterwards. It's sort of magical.

Forest Park is a dearly beloved place to our family . . . we stop there as much as we can when traveling from OH to visit relatives in OK. It's never long enough, nor often enough. (Can't make it work every trip, and we don't go that often to begin with.)

Everything is beautiful. But I grinned when I read about the Grace Livingston Hill villianess. I LOVE GLH novels, and always have. How fun!
