A Woven Silk Tote

The thrift stores around here have marked the winter clothes down to make way for spring stuff. I found a blazer made from this interesting woven silk--it looks like burlap, but feels supple and, indeed, silky. There was just enough to cut out a small tote, and use the sleeves for the tote handles.

A pretty floral lining.

A good way to get rid of some of my excess of velvet rosebuds. Credit to my mother for sewing that bugle bead to that leaf.

Hoping to do a shop update this weekend with this and other goodies.

What a pretty repurposing! I was really bummed out that I missed our local consignment shops markdown sale due to weather and other obligations. They had all clothing to 75% off. You can never tell what treasures you might find. I got a suede shirt for about $2 last season because it had a line down one side of it. I thought it might be good for crafting, but wound up keep it for myself for a barn coat!

My guess is that gorgeous little tote will last all of...3 minutes?

Isn't raw silk wonderful? I made my husband a pair of turkish pants (for re-enacting) out of raw silk and he says they are the most comfortable pants to wear.

Anna,
I love your blog. I saw something that inspired me to tell you about...something you could do...it has Anna written all over it. A Pier 1 imports catalog features a darling apron on the front cover. The catalog is on line, and easy to find...your sewing is beautiful,so this might be of interest to you.
