This is the cake of my first months of marriage--the one I took to potlucks and cooked for dinner parties. Clara made it for us this weekend.
She popped the cherries on afterwards, when I told her we had some in the refrigerator door. Even so, I don't know how it came out so tidy!

Oh, yes! Delectable. I make mine in an iron skillet.
I just made two cherry layer chocolate upside down cakes and stacked them on top of each other for a dinner we were going to ...easy and delicious and looks impressive : )
I love the moist texture of these cakes. I clipped a recipe for a lemon upside down cake that I have yet to make. Your post is a good reminder.
This is my dear Gentleman Farmer's favorite and I haven't made it in years! I will have to correct that, soon! Thanks for the inspiration!
So,Clara bakes as well? That cake is making my mouth water!Perhaps you could share the recipe...?
My "go to" recipe when I was first married as well! And a family favorite that I haven't made in years.
Cyndi--I wasn't sure if your comment was personal, so I took it down. Thank you so much for letting me know I've encouraged you. Blessings on you and yours!
Looks absolutely yummy. I understand the need for a potluck staple.
Did you see the plum upside down cake in the September issue of Everyday Foods?
Clara my dear, it looks divine!
