Alabama Studio Sewing + Design: Sunset Spiral Applique

Trying out the basic dress pattern in Alabama Studio Sewing + Design for Bella, in a below-the-knee version (it's offered in so many lengths, including luscious floor-length with a four-inch train!).

I'm using the only cotton jersey I managed to find in New York--this russet.

I visited the thrift store for t-shirts in toning oranges. I love that used cotton tees are an affordable sewing ingredient universally available--even to us small town girls. Mango, tomato, and pumpkin are definitely happening here in the form of spiral appliques.

She'll glow.

This is beautiful! I can't wait to see it. Your Alabama Chanin posts keep me inspired to finish the skirt I started last summer. ~sigh

Gorgeous colors! Please show the finished dress!
Also, the next time you're in NY, try Mood fabrics on W. 37th St. They carry jersey in every color and type. Another good store is B&J on 7th Avenue. The only problem is that both stores are enormous and there are too many choices!

I need your professional opinion, please: If one could only purchase ONE Alabama Chanin book ~ which one should it be? thanks! :-)

Definitely the third--it has everything you need for the basics, plus all the detailed embellishment instruction, plus all those patterns! The second one is great for the princess-seamed dress, I would get it next, and the first has the corset pattern (nice, not as useful) and a swing skirt that is not too different from the skirts in the other two (every dress pattern can be cut down for a skirt). Buy them 3, 2, 1.

That being said, I drool over the first two quite often. The styling and photography speak to my soul!

I love clothes that can use up second-hand fabric! Bella will be stunning in those colours. She's such a beautiful young lady!
