Frederick Has a Bath

If only you could see Frederick have his bath. It happens exclusively during the vacuuming--I suspect he thinks the noise covers his bath sounds and keeps him safe.

Like the circus man who dives from a high platform into a tiny bucket, Frederick plunges down into the water cup from above.

To the extent he can, he throws water all over himself while keeping his feathers outstanding. He triples in size.

Water gets all over the floor, and I hardly need to add, it's funny.

as a (sadly) former parrot owner, I can tell you that you will get way more bathtime entertainment mileage from a pie plate filled with warm water placed on your dining table....

I can only imagine--Frederick scorns the pie plate . . .

Sweet Frederick - so adorable! Our zebra finches, Basil and Sybil, bathe vigorously every morning in their water dish as well, then furiously fan their tails in a process we call "blow-drying". : )

I am going to suggest a version of Clare's idea. Our family once had a canary and each week before changing the cage papers we would put a saucer of warm -ish water on the cage floor. He almost always hopped at least to the edge of the saucer and "bathed." You might try this with Frederick...

Our zebra and society finches (we have around 14) love to bathe every morning as soon as my 11 year old fills their dishes with clean water.
My mom has a grand eclectus parrot who takes a shower with my mom several times a week. She has a portable perch that stands in the tub and Dolly loves it!

I want a bird! I got an antique typewriter for my birthday today so I suppose I shouldn't be greedy. Still, Frederick looks like fun.

How fun, I can only picture the entire bathing process, never had a bird, other than the outside wild ones. I enjoyed the puffing up description.

When I had a bird I would put warm water in a spray bottle and mist him. He loved it and would stick his body right up to the cage when he saw me coming with the spray bottle.
