Rose, the CCC was a Federal project established to bring the U.S. out of the Great Depression in the 1930s--it was the Civilian Conservation Corps. It provided work and a place to live (they all stayed in camps) to thousands of young men who were put to work building parks, roads, dams, etc. throughout the country. They had to send their pay home to their families. All the work has a very distinctive style and a special poignancy.
Up here the CCC built some beautiful parks, lots of logging roads, and many bridges... We've been visiting our local watering hole very regularly this summer! The boys love it and it's very low cost for town residents.
A couple of autumns ago we took our first 'family of four' vacation to a CCC-built park and stayed in one of its cinderblock cabins, on a peaceful lake in the middle of nowhere. I sat for hours on the screened porch with a sleeping baby on my lap. It was gentle and beautiful, and it's good to remember the hands that built those quiet places.
My grandfather was with the Civilian Conservation Corps for a while. I think he spent most of his time working in Yellowstone. He remembers it being a time of good hard work 6 days a week. On his day off he and a friend would go mountain climbing.

Very pretty! CCC refers to the water/dam in some way? Closed something or other?

Ah, thank you Anna. I did google CCC but didn't find anything that fitted with your post. We had similar schemes here.
