In Which I Note Differences Between My Two College Students
Clara left for school having worked her way methodically down her list of preparations, from the neatly bagged ingredients for tea loaves to be baked in the dorm (above), to laundry detergent, to a custom mending kit with the right colors of thread.
On the other hand, Felix got himself off to school for his senior year while we were gone, catching a ride with a friend. Today he called and asked if we could bring him a bed, and maybe a mattress too.

Oh, I'm laughing! Love this. I am more Clara; my little sister is a Felix. I love how God creates us all so differently. Viva la difference.
Very funny. There are times I will ask my son (25) do you need this, that or the other. A few times the look on his face is priceless...like why didn't I think of that. Maybe it is a male/female thing. LOL

PS I don't see a recipe here for 'tea loaves'.
My second daughter has just installed an app on her ipad to help pack for a little 2-night excursion in 4 days time. A much better option, in her mind, than finishing her school assignments due before the excursion .. sigh. Love the idea of baking at college.

I think it is a male/female thing. This made me lol!! Sounds just like my house :)
That's very similar to the experience I had sending my oldest boy and oldest girl off to college. My daughter had lists and wanted to be sure she had exactly what she needed. My son, when I finally asked him about supplies and such, said, "Oh, I guess I need stuff. Here's the list they sent." Handed the list to me and went off on his merry way.
It made me laugh, too... although I disagree with those who say it's a male/female thing. Sometimes, I'm a Clara, sometimes I'm a Felix. And so is my father.
Still makes me laugh. You wrote it perfectly: it's a perfect little compact story.

I laughed when I read this because it sounds like my children. My daughter and one of my sons are planners who make lists and are neat and organized, and the other two sons subscribe to the "flying by the seat of my pants" philosophy of life! Yet - it all works out in the end, doesn't it?
My son was accepted into a PHd. program last Spring and waited until the last minute to find a place to live. My daughter, a junior in college, found a new place to live early before the end of last semester. He is first born and took his time being born and she born so fast that her father nearly missed her birth!
This is a reminder that I did intend to bake that tea loaf, once upon a time.

HAHA! I have two like this too-but they are opposite! Our daughter is the free spirit who just flies by the seat of her pants. Our son is the methodical planner who prefers not to leave ANYTHING to chance! Wishing them both a GREAT year!

Yes thank you Holly and Anna for the recipe. I finally got around to making this yesterday, it's lovely, quite different from a regular fruit cake. I used an infusion of green and berry teas, macerated the fruit for three hours and reduced the sugar to 150g. Delicious!
