The Fear of Running Out of Handwork

I looked in some phobia directories to see if there is technically a phobia that is "the fear of running out of hand-sewing projects." There's not. But if there was, I may have it.

That's why I put this quilt together with a back this morning, before I had even finished binding my current quilting project.

If there is such a phobia, I think it is hereditary. I actually had my mother take a quilt away from me and keep it for herself on a trip to New York. At first it was enough that we sat beside each other on the airplane and each had an end to quilt. But at the end of the flight, she took it for herself. She's worse than me.

Anyway, I love these blues, and love the subtle plaids used close together.

There definitely should be a word for that. I have it, too. I will not embark on a car trip of any length without something tucked into my bag that I can work on. My son has it, only with books (he definitely needs a kindle;). Maybe it's the fear of having nothing to do.

For me it's the fear of running out of knitting. I finished an outfit for a friend's baby the other night while watching "All Creatures Great and Small" on DVD. For an entire half episode I had nothing to knit as I hadn't decided what to knit next so I hadn't gathered up pattern and knitting! Had two others not been watching with me I would have hit pause! I usually have the next project lined up in it's bag so I know of what you speak Anna.

hahahah, yes, I have this phobia too! I have a trip coming up and not enough handwork - ack! It's also awkward to drag around a whole quilt, which is why I've started handquilting some potholders. I've really tried to like knitting as my handwork, but I much prefer stitching.

You are a productive person and they like to stay busy. That is wonderful!

Sandwiching a quilt is my least favorite part of the process. I seem to like all others. Just crawling on the floor pinning and smoothing - but it has to be done. Congratulations on this next step. Have fun with that beautiful quilt.

Hahaha, I did the same thing this morning. I freaked myself out by finishing three projects yesterday. Despite the other four I still have going I cast on a pair of socks...

Three projects in a day! Wow! Yes, it's best to cast on a fifth project just in case:)

I stand in awe of you talented ladies! :)

I don't have that phobia, but I DO have a fear of being somewhere with time on my hands and NO READING MATERIAL. That would be a dreadful predicament!! :)

Yes I always have the next knitting project lined up before I complete what is in hand. I totally understand!

Hello Anna, my name is Ann, I am a new follower of your blog. I just wanted to write and say how much I love all your quilts and am so inspired to make new quilts! I laughed out aloud reading this post because I am standing in line suffering from this phobia :-)) Best wishes and I am thoroughly enjoying reading your posts. The time and effort you put in is really appreciated. Ann, Australia.
