I love it too! Does Clara draw her own outlines for embroidery? Or do you have an internet source to recommend? She does a wonderful job.

Jenny, generally we look at a bunch of Google images and pick out one with a good outline--then I hold a piece of paper over the computer screen and trace :) Clara uses a fabric marker to trace that outline onto the muslin, then designs the interior with her color and stitch choices as she goes. She has a meticulous eye for the variations of color and direction that make the design really express the animal.

So, will the bear be a repeating motif, or will it just be one bear in the "territory"? Either way would be nice, but I kind of like the thought of just the one, that someone looking at the quilt would not necessarily notice right away, but then - what a nice surprise once he is discovered!

Thank you for explaining the process - again, such lovely work!

Celeste, there's just the one bear, towards the top of the quilt, like he is far off. Down lower on the quilt she's putting a snow hare, a Great Horned Owl, and a pine grosbeak in a tree. You're right--they will be little one-0f-a-kind details.
