Vintage Teen Dress: Butterick 9201

A little sewing for Bella this week-- luscious warm brown flannel with rosebuds from a happy 1950s pattern. For my tiny but statuesque daughter I used a Junior size 13; her wide shoulders fit right into the larger size. Thanks to the sewing wizards at Sense and Sensibility, I know all about taking darts in the neckline so was able to cope with the resulting gape. I must say that the bodice is absolutely riddled with darts, but who cares? The fit is nice, and that's what matters.

A simple bias-bound neckline trimmed with a little red velvet ribbon.

But what the dress is all about is the stitched-down pleats. I love it, she loves it!

She's gorgeous, as is the dress. My daughter , Autumn studies the pictures of Bella each time you show one. She's in love with the African-American hair, and her velvety skin.

Oh, that is so pretty and feminine. She looks beautiful in it! Those pleats are amazing! I adore looking at the dresses (and other stuff) that you make. I wish so badly I could sew that well! Aside from the clothing, my favorite thing you made...it was that little Happy Dog you made for Daisy, remember? He had such a sweet, simple face...Oh, how I loved him :o)

Anne, I have been reading your blog for two+ years and I can't believe how Bella is growing into such an elegant lady!
I check in often, b/c your blog is one of my favorites. It brings a calm feeling after a day of homeschooling, daily activities, and home-keeping! It makes me remember why it is al worth staying home.

Wow! Great job, love how that red trim & buttons just pop. The waist & pleats are very flattering. Can you show us a closer look at the neck & bodice? It would be helpful! Thanks to Bella for modeling so we could enjoy her new dress, too.

Thanks, Leslie
Merry Christmas
