Made up in a lightweight charcoal wool with a beautiful hand, this one will be useful for years. It drapes perfectly on her and is just the ticket for concerts or dressy church.

Beautiful dress. I notice that the pattern is a size 18. Would you mind telling what size in today's sizes Clara is? I have tons of vintage patterns that were my mother's and my aunt's, but I have a difficult time deciding how the sizes translate--the measurements aren't always "right".

I don't actually own this pattern in an 18, mine is a 12. I ignore the number and go by the measurements which are always listed on the outside of the pattern. Vintage patterns, in my experience, run very true to bust, waist, and hip measure. In other words, if you choose the size that matches your measurements, the garment will have just the right amount of ease for you.
Sizes changed from decade to decade.
To fit this patterns for my girls, I added an inch of bodice length for Clara. For Bella, I took out an inch of length in the bodice, and I added half an inch to each shoulder.
She's the lucky kind of girl who can wear anything and look great...the perfect model figure. Lovely dress.
