Spools of Velvet Ribbon

I've been storing my lengths of velvet ribbon on vintage spools of thread for, I don't know, a long time. Then I saw yesterday that Sundance catalog has jumped onto that bandwagon. They're actuallly selling new velvet ribbon on vintage spools! Perhaps I've seen their buyers at the thrift store . . . .

Or, maybe they're reading your blog.

Oh that is so funny. I just saw that in the Sundance catalogue too. What a great idea.

Great idea! I store antique lace on old, wooden bobbins.

I store homemade bias binding on my vintage spools. It works great.

That is so beautiful - I didn't think velvet ribbon could be any more chic, but it so can!

How do you store your ribbons once they're on the reel? Do you stand them up in a group and have to rummage, or in a line so you can see at a glance what's there? I store spools of thread in an old Ferrero Rocher box - transparent plastic! - but I still have to rifle through to see the ones in the middle!

What a clever idea, maybe I can use some of my less vintage spools for this purpose.

I didn't know what to do with vintage spools - my children have them in with their blocks. I'm going to go sneak them out and copy you. Obviously you're a trendsetter!

Where do you get your velvet ribbon? Joann's near me definitely doesn't carry it.

Anna, I found your blog through a series of internet links. It's lovely!

I don't have velvet ribbon, or many vintage spools, but I was just wondering the other day why makers of thread are still using such ugly plastic for spools. It seems to me that wooden ones are so much more beautiful, and "greener". Maybe a thread manufacturer will read your blog and go retro. That would be so very nice.
