Wedding at the Schoolhouse: Ring Pillow

I'm sure this will be the first of *many* wedding details pictured in the next few weeks as we prepare for a Wedding at the Schoolhouse! Not one of my own chicks, but the daughter of some very, very dear friends.

I was sewing up Daisy's flower girl dress in the cream and navy cotton print, and decided to go on and make a ring pillow. The folded blue velvet was given to me by a church friend a few weeks ago--it's clearly for upholstery.

The pillow covering opens with a snip or two of slipstitching, to reveal these things: the pillow cover is actually a sweet evening bag and the straps are hidden inside. The pockets on the outside, for the ring-bearer to stick his mitts into, will be outside pockets.

The pillow inside is made from a scrap of vintage dresser scarf with hand-tatting, and it's made with a little pocket. This will be used for any future children who lose any future teeth and need to put them under their future pillows.

We are so happy for Helen and Franklin who are a darling couple, and so laid back about their wedding plans (a real plus). More to come!

when I first saw this post, I was dreadfully disappointed because I immediately thought the wedding had happened already (why - this is illogical!). Soooo glad you're going to luxuriously go through all the details with us. I adore wedding details!

This is a very very clever pillow/purse/tooth case you have made. It could become a symbol of family life, don't you think? Every family needs such special objects.

How exciting! Now, I can't help but wonder if you and Daisy conferred about her dress - did she pre-approve it?

How exciting! I'll bet Daisy is over the moon.

Oh Anna - what fun! We will all, I am sure, look forward to the excitement of wedding preparation posts.
This project of the ring pillow is simply unique - I've never seen anything like this, and I can only imagine how it will be treasured by the bride. Did you design this yourself? It is the sweetest thing.

Hats off to Helen and Franklin. Way to be re: wedding plans. Commendable.

The ring pillow's perfection indeed.

This sounds like a beautiful idea. Did you create this pattern yourself or can I find it somewhere to purchase?

Positively genius! I love the idea of making the ring bearer pillow into a useful "something" for later on in life. I still take ours out and look at it now and again and wonder what I could do with it.

I love that this special piece of their wedding won't sit in a dusty box in the attic - fabulously innovative!

I love this! I'm going to save this idea for future reference/gift-making. So clever!!!!

I'm hopelessly in love with weddings so I'm eager to see more posts about this one. I'm impressed at the laid-back bride and groom. I may have been barely adult when I planned mine, but laid-back I was not. Then again, maybe it was the impatience and inexperience of youth!

More, please!
