Saturday Morning at the Hardware Store Log Cabin Quilt

It's such a pleasure to finally list a finished quilt--it's the culmination of a many-stepped project. So, I happily offer you Saturday Morning at the Hardware Store Log Cabin Quilt--it's over at the shop. This one, I quilted myself!

That is a truly beautiful quilt. You have such an eye for color.

Do you have any advice on which sorts of quilts are the most forgiving to piece, or how to get your fabric cut straight, or how to choose colors that work? I want to try a quilt soon, but I feel that I have a lot to learn first!

Dianna, if by forgiving you're talking about color choice, then I'd say a scrap quilt made out of three-inch blocks. If you keep all your color choices within one family of colors--blue and green, or red and pink, for example, I hardly think you can go wrong.

For cutting, it's important to follow the grain of the fabric, and you can either use a rotary cutter and plastic ruler, or go old school and draw a line with a pencil beside your straight edge, then cut with scissors. The best way to learn is to go for it!!
